Overcoming Habit Problems & Addiction
Habit problems and addictions come in a broad range of forms. Habit problems include nail biting, excessive comfort eating and many other similar problems, whilst addictions range from smoking to 'hard' drug addiction. Researchers believe that some people are more disposed to forming particular habit problems and addictions than others, but where people have the will to overcome their problem success is likely to come their way. Each different habit problem or addiction has its own particular nature and therefore different approaches are required for them.
For those people suffering from nail biting, unhealthy comfort eating addiction, smoking addiction and many other similar habit problems both hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy have been shown to be highly effective. Most properly qualified eclectic counsellor either practice one or both of these approaches and they have usually had a broad and successful range of experience helping clients to overcome these problems.
People who are addicted to 'hard' drugs are strongly advised to seek assistance through their GP and support from a properly qualified addiction counsellor, whilst people who are addicted to alcohol are advised to seek assistance from their GP and just as importantly seek support through the effective self help group Alcoholics Anonymous (non-specialist counsellors and psychotherapists do not usually work specifically with drug addiction but most hypnotherapists and counsellors will work with alcoholics).
