Robert's practice Lifeworks, based in Kings Norton, was established to specifically address the needs of anxiety sufferers. Offering the psychological support, counselling and therapy often not easily accessible on the NHS, Robert deals with all forms of anxiety disorders. Many people are not aware that 25% of the population will suffer from some form or other of anxiety disorder at some time in their life, often to the point that it deeply affects their work and social lives. Many will not even have identified their problem as a recognised anxiety disorder. Typical anxieties cover; generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), all recognised phobias (of which there are hundreds) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Robert explains that at Lifeworks they are not offering a quick fix or a one cure suits all solution. Because each person is a unique individual in their own right and anxiety disorders are complex in nature, we offer a comprehensive and systematic treatment plan. The treatment offered will address the physical, psychological, emotional and behavioural symptoms that accompany the disorder.
Robert uses a Brief Focused Dynamic Therapy approach, which is based on integrated therapies taken from cognitive and behaviour therapies, psychotherapy, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and analytical hypnotherapy. Throughout, the treatment plan helps the patient to -
- Understand what is happening in their own body
- Identify the circumstances and emotional situations that trigger the symptoms
- Take responsibility for their own part in the treatment process
- Learn how to challenge the self- defeating thoughts that accompany the disorder
- Identify and desensitise the underpinning emotions attached to the onset of the present disorder, both primary and secondary
- Learn deep relaxation techniques
- Develop effective management strategies appropriate to the disorder
