FELLOWSHIP OF ECLECTIC TALKING THERAPISTS CONSTITUTION and Development Plan

  1. The term FETT or Fellowship of Eclectic Talking Therapists refers to the discreet professional organization of that name.
  2. The primary aims of the Fellowship of Eclectic Talking Therapists are;
    • A. to provide an effective, respectable, highly-ethical and non-restrictive, professional organization and register for well-qualified and experienced eclectic counsellors and hypnotherapists and
    • B. to promote high quality, ethical and effective eclectic counselling and hypnotherapy in general.
  3. Where it is beneficent for the furthering of the aims of the organization other links with other suitable organizations should be sought.
  4. The Fellowship shall be understood as being in A. a foundational state, in which membership is under 100 members, B. a consolidational state in which membership is under 300 members, or C. a fully developed state in which membership has been consistently over 300 for a long and stable period (as judged by the General Secretary/Chairperson). During the foundation and consolidation periods of the organization's development the Fellowship shall be managed and overseen by the General Secretary/Chairperson until he/she shall appoint a successor to the post. When the Fellowship enters into a fully developed stated then the Constitution shall be amended accordingly by the General Secretary/Chairperson in consultation with the members of the organization.
  5. The General Secretary shall act in accordance with the best interests of the Fellowship, its members and the general public.
  6. The General Secretary/Chairperson may delegate and appoint FETT secretaries to undertake the various important functions related to the running of the organization. The General Secretary/Chairperson shall act in accordance with the best interests of the Fellowship, its members and the general public. When the current General Secretary/Chairperson assesses that the organization is suitably established (in a durable and secure fashion) then it will be the appropriate time to go through a process of developing the organization into such a form to enable it to become a registered UK charity, governed by a Council of suitable Fellow members (to be elected every four years by a postal ballot of the Fellows of the organization).
  7. The FETT Fellow Members shall be invited to an Annual General Meeting to be held in June each year (on a Saturday). During the foundation and consolidation periods of the organization's development the AGM shall be a forum in which the issues relating to the development of the Fellowship may be discussed as a means for the General Secretary/Chairperson to gain insight from the ideas and views of these senior FETT members. At any point that the organization gains charitable status the AGM is then to be developed into a consultative meeting open to all FETT Full Members and Fellows in which their opinions are to be sought by the Council of Fellows.
  8. All Fellowship members will be expected to behave in accordance with the FETT Code of Conduct. Where breaches of the code occur they shall be dealt with according to the rules of the organization.
  9. In accordance with the FETT ethical code all Fellowship members shall be expected to undertake reasonable and ongoing personal and professional development activities (which may included relevant reading, attending courses or workshops and/or various other activities beneficial to the therapeutic effectiveness of the member). The Fellowship may occasionally ask a particular member to provide them with evidence of their CPD activities and ask them to increase them if necessary.
  10. Membership Notes:
    • A. FETT membership does not imply that the organization is responsible for the practice of the member therapists to clients or the general public - however, where members behave inappropriately they may be removed through FETT mechanisms.
    • B. Members hold no rights beyond those outlined in the Constitution and the FETT Code of Ethics.
    • C. Members may be suspended or expelled if they fail to pay their annual dues, act against the rules of the organization or behave in a way that may harm the FETT.
    • D. Members who wish to end their membership should do so by writing to the General Secretary.
    • E. The General Secretary may terminate any membership at his/her discretion, but the member's payment for the part of the year remaining shall be returned.
    • F. All organizational members are bound by the FETT Constitution and the FETT Code of Ethics & Complaints procedures.
    • G. Organizational members may be suspended or expelled if their dues are not paid, they behave in ways contrary to the FETT Code of Ethics or where they act in a way that is harmful to the Fellowship.
    • H. The General Secretary may end the membership of any organizational member at his/her discretion, but if this ever occurs it must be done in a way compatible with the well being of the members and/or students of that organizational member.
    • I. The General Secretary is to appoint assessors for new members as he/she deems appropriate (assessors must be 1. qualified in eclectic hypnotherapy and counselling, 2. experienced practitioners, 3. a Full or Fellow Member of the FETT).
  11. Legal Note: The Fellowships activities shall be kept in conformity to all relevant UK laws and statutory regulations.
